Decorating a Christmas Tree With Candles
The origin of attaching lighted candles to an evergreen tree can be traced to Martin Luther. German legend claims that on his way home one evening, Martin Luther was overwhelmed by the beauty of the evergreen tree and the stars in the sky. Not able to find the words to express his emotions, he went out and cut down the tree. He brought it home to share with his family and to replicate the starlit heaven, he decorated the evergreen tree with candle tapers. This is believed to be the first traditional Christmas tree in Germany. Throughout the years, it remained tradition to decorate the tree with candles.
Decorating a Christmas tree with candles remains popular today. Due to safety reasons, however, it is not practical in many cases. A lit candle and the dryness of evergreen branches can result in fire along with the hazards of the candles being knocked over or falling against curtains or other flammable objects. Fortunately, there are flameless alternatives on the market that look realistic and are safe and hassle free.
About Clip-on Christmas Tree Candles
A safe alternative to traditional open flame candles are flameless clip-on candles. Clip-on candles are either battery-operated or electric. There are several versions to choose from including:
- The most popular version is a set of LED clip-on candles that individually plug into your existing tree light strand. They have a realistic looking flame and can be placed anywhere on your tree. Since there is no heat being generated from the clip-on candles, they are safe and easy to operate.
- A set of 10 candle lights features super bright, clear bulbs and green wire. Each 3.5-inch tall candle features an ivory-colored plastic body, made to perfectly mimic a candle. Removable clips make it easy to attach these candles to the tree, or wherever else you put them. They can burn steady, or be converted to flashing by using the included flasher bulb. This set is UL listed for indoor use only.
- Something else to consider is using clip-on Christmas tree candle holders. The holders allow for a traditional, festive decoration. Made of metal, in gold or silver, these adjustable clips come 10 to a package. For a festive table, use one clipped on the edge of a plate to hold an individual candle at each place setting.

Anywhere you want to use some decorative lighting would work well.

Another location that clip-on candles would be preferred is in an office or workplace, school or nursing home. Since many places do not allow open flames, a flameless clip-on candles would be the perfect alternative.
