Homemade Room Fragrances
From LoveToKnow Candles
If you enjoy candle making, you may be wondering how to create coordinating homemade room fragrances. Luckily, the process for making a room spray is very simple.
Making Homemade Fragrance Spray
Homemade room fragrances can be used to scent the air or as specialty linen sprays. Many people like to use essential oils for their aromatherapy benefits, but you can use fragrance oils for making your spray if you wish.
Supplies:
- 30 drops essential oil in the blend of your choice
- 3 cups distilled water
- 6 teaspoons ethanol rubbing alcohol or vodka
- Spray bottle
- Bowl
- Small funnel
Instructions:
- Mix essential oils into a small bowl.
- Fill your bottle with the distilled water.
- Add essential oils to bottle using a funnel.
- Shake mixture well and refrigerate for at least 24 hours before using.
If you would prefer a room spray that is stronger than average, you can adjust the formula above to include more essential oil. Just remember that a stronger spray may be bothersome to people with allergies or fragrance sensitivities.
Sometimes your room spray mixture may appear slightly cloudy. This is normal and will not affect the fragrance or cause the spray to stain your linens. However, you will want to keep in mind that essential oils are very volatile and evaporate more quickly than the water or alcohol in the spray mixture. The fragrance of your room spray will thus start to deteriorate after about six months.
A Word of Caution for Crafty Entrepreneurs
Although it's common for candle makers to sell their products at craft shows or through online venues such as Etsy, please keep in mind that some states have restrictions regarding the sale of fragrances or toiletries made with alcohol. If you're interested in earning extra money by selling a room spray made with vodka, it's best to check with local authorities to make sure you won't be breaking any laws.
