Wiccan Candle Spells

From LoveToKnow Candles

Wiccan candle spells may be used to bring things to you or to take something away from you. Candle spells are easy to do and only require a few simple tools to complete them. If you've ever blown out the candles on a birthday cake and made a wish you have done candle magick!

Tools for Wiccan Candle Spells

In order to properly do a candle spell, the right tools should be on hand. Wicca magic (or magick) can be done for any need, whether it is a blessing for a new baby or to ward away suspected evil intentions. It is important to remember that anyone who casts a spell for any reason should take responsibility for it, no matter what the outcome is.

The tools needed for casting candle spells include:

  • A candle in the color that corresponds with the intent – the candle can be in any shape or size, new and unused
  • A magick knife (boline) or pointed crystal – used to carve words into the candles
  • Essential oil that corresponds with the intent
  • Herbs that correspond with the intent
  • Mortar and pestle – to grind up the herbs
  • A deep candle cup or holder – the deeper the better because depending upon the spell, candles covered with oil and herbs may have much larger flames than expected

Writing a Spell

The writing of a spell is a personal thing. While some are written to rhyme, they need not be. A spell should clearly state what the intent is. If you aren't sure how to go about writing a spell, there are several sources that may help you on the Internet:

An example of a very simple spell to chant while the candle flame is burning would be the following:

In this flame my goal I see. Bring this wish, my dream, to me

Remember the Rule of Three

For Wiccans, casting any spell means to acknowledge the rule of three. The rule of three states that any energy cast into a spell or into the universe returns to the caster three fold. The Wiccan rede demands that Wiccan magic "An it harm none, do what ye will." So any spell that is cast can return to the bearer three times as strong (this discourages the casting of negative intent) and the Wiccan rede demands that all spells be benign, or non-harmful to others.

Casting a Candle Spell

Once you have all of your tools for the spell collected, it is time to prepare for creating the spell. The following steps should be used to weave the candle spell:

  1. Carve the candle. Carve what you desire into the side of the candle with the magick knife or crystal. Use words or symbols that represent what you want to achieve with this spell. For example, if you want money, write out the word "money" and use dollar symbols or even carve a small representation of coins or bills.
  2. Dress the candle. This means that the candle should be rubbed with the essential oil and herb mixture. A simple procedure is done to dress the candle. First, hold the candle in one hand and place some of the oil on the middle of the candle. If the spell is to ward something away, place your hand in the center of the candle and push away the oil towards the top or wick end of the candle. Turn the candle around and beginning in the middle again, push the oil away from you and towards the bottom of the candle. For a blessing or for a spell to bring something to you, put the oil on the center of the candle and pull the oil to the top or wick end of the candle towards you, then reverse the candle and pull the oil towards you to the bottom of the candle.
  3. Light the candle.
  4. Write what you want on a piece of clean, never been used, paper. This can be colored paper that matches the candle or it may be white. While you are writing what you desire, visualize it happening. Carefully fold up the paper, concentrating on what you want to happen. You may chant the spell at this point in the ritual.
  5. Place the end of the paper into the flame until it catches fire. Be careful to keep hair and clothing away from the flaming paper and candle.
  6. Once you have completed the ritual, allow the candle to completely burn down. Never leave a burning candle unattended.
  7. Many Wicca practitioners will bury the candle in a secluded place after the spell has been cast.

Keep track of your Wiccan candle spells after you have completed them. Create a book of spells to keep them in, if you haven't already done so. Experienced Wicca practitioners often make their own candles in addition to essential oil and herb mixes. This helps to charge the ritual tools with the energy of the person performing the spell, which makes a spell stronger..
